Kuzbass

Building upon the company’s success in The Kuzbass, Davis Derby supplied a further multifunctional gas monitoring and control system to Bolshevik mine (owned and operated by Siberugol).

A further major contract in the Kuzbass was awarded to Davis Derby for the supply in 2007 of Davis Derby’s Minewatch RF21 Radio Frequency Identification system to Kirov mine. The project called for the ability to provide real-time information of the whereabouts of miners underground. The Davis Derby system provides a number of underground zones in which all miners entering or leaving the zones are indicated at the surface. The mine management now has continuous information on the whereabouts of all it’s underground workers from the moment the miner takes his cap lamp to the moment he returns it.

The system is currently being expanded to include new and future areas of the mine and also the same technology is being applied to detect miners on belt conveyors.

In 2008, Davis Derby established a subsidiary company Davis Derby Siberia, based in Novokuznetsk, to provide sales, service and customer support to the growing number of customers in the Kuzbass. The Novokuznetsk team are time served mining electrical engineers and are an integral part of the Davis Derby Company

In 2008, Davis Derby was awarded the contract to supply two multifunctional gas monitoring and control systems to Arcelor Mittal in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. This was quickly followed by a further contract to provide similar systems to four more mines of Arcelor Mittal in Karaganda.

Again in 2008, Davis Derby supplied a second Minewatch RF21 RFID system to Bolshevik Mine. This system is designed to integrate into the existing environment monitoring system installed at Bolshevik.

Davis Derby was awarded the opportunity to provide a complete control and monitoring system for Kirov Mine. The system includes control and monitoring of ventilation fans and the environment; belt conveyor control and monitoring, coal face communications and control; water pumping control and monitoring and control of the mines electrical distribution system. The system utilises the Minewatch PC21 range of distributed controllers together with ancillary equipment manufactured and supplied by Davis Derby. This contract outstrips the previous record contract of 2005

Davis Derby received the contract to supply two further multifunctional gas monitoring and control systems to Arcelor Mittal in Karaganda. All Arcelor Mittal’s mines will be equipped with the Davis Derby Minewatch PC21 controllers and surface MineSCADA systems
